Animation 💻

31st Mar 2026

Over the past term the whole school has been exploring Film and Animation in ICT. This was a key focus in our school two years ago when we all received training and support from the Nerve Centre in Belfast. It was great to see the children building on the skills they previously acquired as they move up through the school. Primary Seven created some excellent animations using Stop Motion. They were able to choose backgrounds and edit their work independently. Voiceovers were added with some excellent expression being used for the various wild animals! Particularly impressive was the children's ability to explain how they created their animations to the Foundation Stage children. This was used as a stimulus for their Animation work using the iPads. The Primary One and Two then went on to create their own simple animations in pairs based around their 'Moving Things' topic. They really enjoyed seeing their chosen characters move at the end and were keen to advance their skills to work out how to edit their work if they noticed something not quite right. Primary One have also used Just2Easy Animate to move a car around a city and create their own animations using a background and sprites of their choice.  Primary Three made more creative animations using a wide variety of props and were able to add simple voiceovers to their stories. As Primary Four and Five were focusing on using Scratch as part of their Shared Education project, they made various animations using Scratch Junior. These allowed them to make a dinosaur move around their chosen backgrounds using coding. They had fun animating their names by making the letters spin, jump and change colour using Scratch. They also took part in a Just2Easy Live lesson where they animated a butterfly.

This was a very busy, rewarding and fun area to explore in ICT and the children all rose to their individual challenges to produce some fantastic work. Well done.
