Safer Internet Day 2021
On Tuesday 9th February, it will be Safer Internet Day. It is an annual awareness day in all schools and organisations around the country. This year, it is more important than ever to raise children’s awareness of the importance of keeping safe online and following basic rules to make our Internet “An Internet we trust”. We are all using various social media platforms to keep in touch with our family, friends and schools. This could be through our website, Seesaw, Zoom, Teams, WhatsApp and many more. The list is endless but if we use it safely and children know what to do if they feel uncomfortable, scared or just unsure about something, it can be a very valuable, educational and fun resource.
This year the UK Safer Internet Centre has teamed with 2Simple to take part in the official Guinness World Records attempt for the most pledges received for an Internet safety campaign in 24 hours. Attached is the template you should use and a ‘Taking Part’ Guide with all the instructions you should need if you would like to send in your pledge. The link to add your pledge will only be available between 10am on 9th Feb and 9.30 am on the 10th February.
However, we would love as many of your completed entries also sent through to your teachers so we can share them on our website. This can be done in the usual way through Seesaw or by email.
Your teachers may well be setting these or other tasks in your class around Internet safety but there are also a few useful documents attached to give you guidance on discussing Internet safety.
