African Musical Instrument Creations in P1 and P2
Primary One and Two have been listening to traditional music from different parts of Africa. They closed their eyes and thought about how it made them feel or what it reminded them of. We watched people online talking about some of the common drums used and found out about how they can be played using different parts of our hands. They had fun dancing to some of the songs and loved the rhythm and repetition throughout. All the children brought in recycled materials from home and over the last couple of weeks they created their own musical instrument inspired by what they had watched and listened to. There were some very creative designs and lots of beautiful decorations added for that extra special touch. They had great fun joining in with some African music where they demonstrated amazing concentration and focus as they attempted to copy beats and hear instruments similar to their own. The final part of our work was to have a little parade outside to demonstrate their instruments and dancing to their full potential.
